Page Numbers for Print and Archiving
Keep numbers away from the edge: printing/binding can crop them. Use the outer edge for duplex, and for archived PDFs use X / Y with a text layer so the file is searchable and page completeness is provable.
At least 12-24 pt.
Avoid footers/binding stamps.
Keep a searchable text layer.
Keep a copy of the original.
FAQ
Where on duplex prints?
Outer edge (right on odd, left on even) so both sides show it after binding.
Does numbering affect OCR?
A text layer does not; just do not cover body text.
